Update on man found critically injured in Birmingham street as police ‘piece together’ night

Police have issued a fresh appeal as a man who was found badly injured and fighting for his life in a Birmingham[1] street remains in hospital. Paramedics were called to Holliday Street in the city centre, close to the city’s Register Office, shortly after 3am on Tuesday (December 12). Paramedics found a man in a ‘critical condition’ and gave ‘advanced trauma care’ before the man in his 20s was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Edgbaston.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 3.17am on Tuesday to a medical emergency on Holliday Street, Birmingham.[2][3][4] “Two ambulances, two paramedic officers and a MERIT (Medical Emergency Response and Intervention Team) trauma doctor and critical care paramedic attended the scene. Upon arrival we found a man in a critical condition.

He received advanced trauma care from ambulance staff at the scene which continued en route to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.” Paramedics alerted police who sealed off Holliday Street between Bridge Street and Berkley Street for more than 24 hours, while investigations were carried out. Blood could be seen on the pavement, but how the man came to be injured remains a mystery.

Now West Midlands Police[6] has issued an appeal for witnesses, particularly drivers with footage from the area to come forward. A spokesperson for the force said: “We’re appealing for dashcam footage after a man was found badly injured on Holliday Street in # Birmingham city centre[7] early on Tuesday morning (December 12). “We were called by paramedics just after 3.20am, and the man, in his 20s, was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

Investigators are continuing to piece together exactly what happened that night, and have been carrying out forensic and CCTV enquiries.”
