Van crashes into lamppost as two men try to flee after police chase

A van crashed into a lamppost following a late night police chase. Officers on patrol in Wirral[1] on Sunday, December 3, spotted a silver Vauxhall Astra van driving dangerously at high speed on Hoylake[2] Road in Moreton, at around 1.45am. The officers started to chase the vehicle, which crashed with a lamppost.

Two men tried to flee the area, but after a short chase were detained by Merseyside Police. Both men were taken to hospital to be assessed as a precautionary measure and were later taken to custody.

A 40-year-old man from Neston and a 30-year-old man from Moreton were arrested on suspicion of driving dangerously, driving while unfit through drugs and driving while disqualified.

They have been released under investigation. Police are now appealing for witnesses, and for any CCTV and dash camera footage which may have captured the incident, to get in touch to assist the investigation. Anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage on this incident is asked to contact @MerPolCC on Twitter[5] or ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook[6] with reference 23001220409.
