Warning over road closures around Nuneaton Town Hall tomorrow

Motorists are being warned that the main road around Nuneaton Town Hall will be closed tomorrow afternoon (December 13). Coton Road, between the pedestrian entrance to Ropewalk and the Town Hall, will be closed from 5pm to 6.30pm. The car park behind the Town Hall will be closed to the public from 3pm.

This is because of the planned silent ‘shine a light vigil for children of Gaza’.[1] CoventryLive reported that the vigil is being held outside the Town Hall between 5:30pm and 6:30pm. The vigil is planned to take place between 5.30pm and 6:30pm at the main entrance to the Town Hall.

It has been organised by the Palestine Solidarity Group of Nuneaton[2] and will include six coffins being laid on the steps of the Town Hall, each said to “represent 1,000 innocent children who have been killed in conflict to date”. Nuneaton and Bedworth[4] Borough Council has confirmed that it has been contacted by Warwickshire[5] Police about the event. “It is likely to get busy in the area so please plan your journey accordingly,” a Town Hall spokesperson said. The vigil is being held around the time of the last full council meeting of the year, which is due to be held in the council chamber at 6pm.

“For any members of the public who are intending to attend the Full Council meeting, please use the side Town Hall entrance situated opposite the Tool Shop, not the front entrance,” the council said.

The vigil comes several weeks after a ‘Free Palestine’ march was held on November 18, which started in Edward Street and ended outside the Town Hall.
