West Mercia Police warning after increase in crashes

The force says it has received an increase in 999 calls which is placing a high demand on its road network. In Herefordshire alone, there have been some serious crashes over the weekend. This includes:

A 4×4 also left the road near Bromyard yesterday (December 9); however, the driver was unharmed. [1] Three flood alerts remain in place in the county. This is for the river Frome, the Lugg south of Leominster, and the Leadon catchment.

Strong winds has also led to fallen trees and debris across the region. West Mercia Police’s advice is:

  • Drive to the conditions
  • Allow extra time for journeys
  • Take extra care while driving

You should also not attempt to drive through flood water. As well as putting yourself and others in danger, it could also damage your vehicle.

If there is a risk to life, call 999.
