Westhoughton: Woman suffers ‘life-threatening’ injuries after crash

Emergency services were called to Lower Leigh Road at around 4.15pm yesterday, Friday. It was reported a car heading towards Westhoughton overtook a HGV and later collided with a car coming in the opposite direction. A third vehicle crashed then into the back of this car as it came to a stop.

A 71-year-old woman was taken to hospital with “life threatening injuries” and other people were injured too. No arrests have been made. Investigators from Greater Manchester Police’s (GMP) serious collision investigation unit want to speak to the driver of the HGV vehicle who reportedly did not stop at the scene.

It is believed they may be a significant witness or may have dashcam footage.

Police have urged anyone with information to come forward.

A GMP spokesperson added: “Anyone who believes they witnessed the incident, has CCTV or dashcam footage should contact police on 0161 8564741 quoting log 2213 of 15/12/23.”
