Jack Knowles, 34, from Ladies Lane in Hindley, was sentenced to one year eight months’ imprisonment and a driving disqualification for five years and 10 months, after earlier pleading guilty to causing death by careless driving and committing an act with intent to pervert the course of public justice. Bolton Crown Court heard that shortly after 9.40pm on Bonfire Night 2021, Katherine West was crossing Ladies Lane, close to the junction with Haworth Street.
She reached the hatched markings in the centre of the carriageway, with one car slowing to allow her to cross.
