Woman doing Christmas shopping in B&M bursts into tears after peering down into her trolley at the checkouts

There’s mounting pressure on families to spend tons of money on Christmas[1] presents and food. This year has been particularly difficult with everything from groceries, fuel and bill prices increasing. It means a lot of us have less to spend this December.

Shops such as B&M can be really useful at this time of year, shoppers can pick up discount presents, chocolates, decorations and stocking fillers. With such a wide variety of things, it’s often a first-stop for plenty of shoppers. On Saturday morning, a woman was heading to the checkout tills in a city centre[2] B&M store when she burst into tills.

The woman, who remains anonymous, realised she didn’t have enough money to pay for all of her shopping at the checkout. According to one of the employees she then asked if she could leave some of the items and pay for what she could afford. Moments later she was approached by a kind-hearted stranger who dropped a ‘wad’ of cash in her trolley before leaving the shop. A staff member told the Liverpool Echo[3] : “As she was sorting out her shopping, an older male waiting behind her walked up to her, simply said ‘Merry Christmas’ and dropped what looked to be a large wad of money on her shopping in her trolley and walked out without saying anything else.

“The woman stood there for a minute or so crying saying she couldn’t believe it.” The staff member said they hoped the “nice Christmas gesture” will “warm people’s hearts before Christmas and show how good and close the Liverpool community spirit is.”
