Woman seriously injured after being hit by car as man arrested

A woman was seriously injured after being hit by a car in Liverpool city centre. Police were called to Dale Street[1] at around called at 10.40pm on Thursday after reports of a crash involving a Toyota Prius and a pedestrian. Merseyside Police initially said the incident involved a man, however, they have now confirmed the pedestrian injured was a woman.

She was taken to hospital after suffering from a serious leg injury. Officers closed the road following the incident at the junction of Dale Street and Stanley Street.

Police have now confirmed a 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing serious injury by careless driving.

He is currently in custody. A police spokesperson said: “We are appealing for information following reports of a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian and car in Liverpool city centre[4]. It was reported that at around called at 10.40pm a Toyota Prius was in collision with a woman pedestrian at the junction of Dale Street and Stanley Street.

“The pedestrian suffered a serious leg injury and was taken to hospital. A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of driving above the specified drug drive limit and causing serious injury by careless driving. He is currently in custody.

“We are appealing for any witnesses, CCTV and dash camera footage which may assist the investigation.
