Woman’s say fall through Nottinghamshire shop floor ‘blamed on weight’
A Nottinghamshire[1] woman who fell through a shop floor says the accident was blamed on her weight. Leanne Woodward was walking down the middle aisle of Premier in Pasture Road, Stapleford[2] when a tile suddenly caved in on Friday (December 1) afternoon. The 33-year-old’s leg crashed through the floor and onto metal bars, resulting in cuts and bruising around her knee.
The mum-of-two said a shop worker suggested it was because of her weight. “I’m a big girl but seriously? A shop floor shouldn’t fall because of my weight,” she said.
When Nottinghamshire Live[3] visited the store, worker Dininesh Kumar said the hole had since been filled in with concrete but did not know the specifics of the incident. Ms Woodward, of Stapleford, said she was made to feel bad by the worker, leading her to leave the shop in tears.

Recalling the incident, she said: “I walked down the middle aisle and one of the tiles caved in and made a mess of my leg. I felt so silly, I took my leg out and the person behind the till said it could be because of my weight. “It made me feel pretty [bad], I should be able to go to a shop and not go through the floor.
It cut my leg quite badly and it’s badly bruised. It happened so quick and I felt so stupid, I walked out and burst out in tears.”

“What if it had been an elderly person or my disabled mum or one of my kids? It could’ve ended up bad.
I don’t think I’ll go back in there,” she added.
Broxtowe Borough Council[5] said it would investigate Ms Woodward’s concerns.
NottinghamshireLive has not received a response from the shop manager at the time of publication.
