Woodgrange Drive crash: Pedestrian fighting for his life

Police closed off Woodgrange Drive yesterday at about 4.20pm following reports of a pedestrian being hit by a car in a crash. An ambulance, rapid response vehicle and an ambulance officer vehicle were all called to the scene[1] where a man was taken to Southend Hospital in a serious condition. The pedestrian, a man in his 70s, remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Essex Police has confirmed its enquiries remain ongoing. A spokesman said: “We were called to Woodgrange Drive in Southend at around 4:20pm on Wednesday, 13 December following reports of a pedestrian being involved in a collision with a car. “The pedestrian, a man in his 70s has been taken to hospital, where he remains with life-threatening injuries.

“Enquiries remain ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or have any CCTV or dashcam footage is asked to contact us quoting reference number 726 of 13 December.” An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said: “One ambulance, one rapid response vehicle and one ambulance officer vehicle were called to Woodgrange Drive, Southend, yesterday afternoon following reports of a pedestrian injured in a road traffic collision.

“One man was transported to Southend University Hospital in a serious condition.”
