Brigg-based land agency and chartered surveyors’, DDM Agriculture has further expanded its team, client base and geographical reach by acquiring the agricultural division of the Goole and Howden-based Townend Clegg & Co. Choosing to re-centre the agricultural division in Howden, the business, which will now trade as Townend Clegg Agriculture, will move to new premises in the historic surroundings of the Bishops Manor. Well-known and widely respected land agents Michael Townend and Charles Clegg will continue to be involved in the business on a day-to-day basis.
Of the acquisition, Michael Townend said: “We are delighted that, by joining the DDM Agriculture group, we have secured the future of the Townend Clegg business for our existing and future clients. Joining forces with a well-resourced firm of a very similar nature and with a broad age profile of land agents means that we can continue to provide specialist rural consultancy for the long term.” The Townend Clegg Agriculture team will also be significantly strengthened by the appointment of Matthew Willoughby.
Matthew joins the team having spent 18 years as a qualified surveyor in the rural sector, so brings a wealth of professional experience. The acquisition of Townend Clegg follows DDM’s successful purchase of Bawtry based JH Pickup & Co in 2018. This latest acquisition ensures and enhances the long term future for all businesses under the DDM Agriculture umbrella; growing the team to an impressive total of 17 land agents plus support staff.
DDM Agriculture has been running the Screeton’s Agriculture business since 2001 and the purchase of Townend Clegg Agriculture allows DDM to consolidate both Howden-based businesses into Townend Clegg Agriculture. DDM Agriculture primarily serve clients across, Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire; providing advice in all aspects of land agency, including; land and property sales, dispersal sales, valuations, farm management, planning consultancy, farm diversification, compensation. They also serve clients nationwide in the growing renewable energy sector.
Managing Director of DDM Agriculture, Giles Johnston said: “We are delighted to welcome Michael, Charles and Matthew to the business and I look forward to working with them to continue to build for the future of both our clients and our own team. The acquisition of Townend Clegg Agriculture not only strengthens our client base, but also brings a wider set of skills and experience to our ever-growing team of chartered surveyors. This growth improves the support we can offer to all of our clients across the group of companies, in what continues to be an ever-changing and challenging time for UK agricultural businesses.”
