1 killed, another injured in fiery Dauphin County single-vehicle crash
A 60-year-old man died and a 33-year-old man was severely injured Thursday morning following a fiery single vehicle crash in Washington Township, Dauphin County, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
The crash happened around 5:15 a.m. on State Route 225 near Roller Road when the vehicle failed to turn left with the road, hitting an embankment and stump before spinning, overturning and catching on fire, police said.
Kevin Geary, 60, of Pillow, Pennsylvania, was able to exit the car through the passenger windshield before helping the other man, 33-year-old John Carlos Reyes, also of Pillow, out of the car.
Police said Reyes was on fire when Geary extricated him, and Geary used his jacket to smother the flames on Reyes' body before collapsing to the ground, according to a police report.
State police did not say which of the men was driving the car or what caused them to crash.
Geary was pronounced dead at the scene and Reyes was flown to Geisinger Medical Center with "major injuries," the report said.
Reyes' condition is not known at this time.
Peifer Towing, the Dauphin County Coroner's Office, Medic 6 EMS, Elizabethville Fire Department and the Berrysburg Fire Department all assisted state police with the crash.
