5 killed in road accidents in two districts

At least five people were killed and four others injured in road accidents in Manikganj and Sirajganj on Monday. Bangladesh Sangbad Sanstha reported that three people, including an auto-rickshaw driver, were killed and four others injured when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw ran over by a dump truck in Outpara area on Manikganj-Singair-Hemayetpur regional highway. The deceased were - Jashim Talukder, 42, his grandchild Md Tashen, 5 and auto-rickshaw driver Md Shahin, 52.

Among the injured, two were in critical condition. The accident occurred when the CNG-run auto-rickshaw, carrying seven passengers heading towards Manikganj bus stand, collided head-on with a soil-loaded dump truck, leaving the driver dead on the spot, said Manikganj Sadar police station officer-in-charge Md Habil Hossain. Police said that injured Jashim and his grandchild were declared dead when they were shifted to a nearby hospital.

Meanwhile, BSS also reported that two people were killed in a head-on collision between an engine-run three-wheeler and a battery-run auto-rickshaw on the Hatikumrul-Banpara highway in Hamkuria area of Tarash upazila in Sirajganj. One of the deceased was auto-rickshaw driver Saidur Rahman, 27, son of Amir Hossain of Bara Belai village of Handyal union of Chatmohar upazila in Pabna while identity of another victim could not be known immediately. Hatikumrul highway police station OC Abdul Wadud said that the accident occurred when the auto-rickshaw and three-wheeler collided head-on at about 2:30pm, leaving Saidur Rahman and an unidentified woman dead on the spot.

Later, lawmen recovered the bodies from the spot and seized the vehicles, added the police official.
