A day after motorcycle crash, Mumbai police register case against one of the deceased

A day after three people on a motorcycle were killed in a road accident at Mumbai’s Parel Bridge, the police on Wednesday booked a case against one of the deceased, a call centre employee who was driving the vehicle. According to the police, the accident took place around 6.15 am and the three victims — Tanish Patange, 24, Renuka Tamrakar, 25, and Nicole Dias, 25, — who suffered grievous head injuries were not wearing helmets and died during treatment at KEM Hospital. The Bhoiwada police had initially registered a case of accidental death.

However, on Wednesday they registered a case against Patange, a call centre employee, under sections 304 (A) (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of Rs 50) of the Indian Penal Code and section 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act. It is procedural. We have registered a case against him and as he is no more we will soon submit a closure report in court,” said an officer. Patange worked in Chandigarh[1] and had come to Mumbai[2] to meet his family early this month. “He is survived by father, a sister and a brother.

He lost his mother five months ago. He was in Mumbai on a vacation and was to go back to Chandigarh on Wednesday. His tickets were also booked,” said his relative.

“The two-wheeler collided with the divider on the north-bound road and was thrown off to the opposite side where it was hit by the dumper.

The two-wheeler was then thrown back on the south-bound road,” said an officer.

Soon after the crash, passers-by informed the police control room, following which the patrol team of Bhoiwada police station rushed to the spot and shifted the severely injured to hospital.
