A37 Maiden Newton closed after crash

The A37 Long Ash Lane near Maiden Newton is currently closed after a crash was reported at around 6am. Police, paramedics and two fire crews were all called to the scene of the crash. Traffic is reported to be queueing between Drift Road and the Chalmington turn-off.

The road has been closed between Dorchester and Yeovil. Drivers are urged to find alternative routes. A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said: “We’re currently working with Dorset Police, South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust and colleagues from Dorchester Fire Station to deal with a road traffic collision on the A37 crossroads between Maiden Newton & Sydling St Nicholas.

“The road will be closed for some time. Please avoid the area.” A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 5.44am on Monday, January 15, to a road traffic incident on the A37, Dorchester.

We sent one double-crewed ambulance and three operations officers.” Following the crash, the Damory D12 service has been rerouted and will be severely delayed. Traffic is currently heaviest between Clay Pigeon Raceway and Norden Lane.
