A38 live traffic updates as major Derby route shut amid Derbyshire Police ‘incident’

A stretch of the A38 in Derby was closed by police on Wednesday night (January 10) due to an ongoing “incident”. Both sides of the busy route were shut between Palm Court Island and Markeaton Island. Drivers were warned to avoid the area.

Traffic on approach to the area was being diverted, Derbyshire Police said. The force has not given any further details at this stage on the nature of the incident or the reason for the police response. Police said in an initial update:”Part of the A38 at Derby is closed in both directions due to an incident.

Both sides of the carriageway are closed for a stretch between Palm Court Island and Markeaton Island. Motorists should avoid the area until further notice.” National Highways said: “The A38 is CLOSED in both directions between the A52 (Markeaton Island) and A6 (Palm Court Island) due to a Derbyshire Police incident.

Traffic on approach is being diverted. Please plan ahead of your journey if travelling in the area this evening.” This is a breaking news story.
