A420 fatal crash: Man dies in collision between two HGVs and Toyota Yaris

A man has been killed in a collision between two lorries and a car on a main A-road just across the Gloucestershire border. The collision happened on the A420 near Faringdon, Oxfordshire[1], shortly after 12.50am today (Tuesday, January 9). The man, who was in his 70s, was driving a Toyota Yaris and died of his injuries at the scene.

The two lorry drivers were taken to hospital, but their injuries are not thought to be serious, Thames Valley Police[2] said. One of the lorries which was involved in the initial collision jack-knifed and collided with a stationary lorry. Police are now appealing for witnesses and dash-cam footage following the fatal crash.

Investigating officer Sergeant Tony Jenkins, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are with the family of the man who has tragically died in this collision. They are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers. “I am appealing to anybody who was driving in the area at the time of the collision and has any information that can assist this investigation to please get in touch with us.

If you have dash-cam in your vehicles, I would ask you to please check this and contact us to provide this to us.” The A420 has been closed for several hours while the vehicles were recovered and the investigation began. It will need resurfacing and is due to reopen later this evening.

Motorists have been urged to avoid the area and find alternative routes. Anyone with information can make a report make a report online[5] or by calling 101, quoting reference 43240011641. Want our best stories with fewer ads and alerts when the biggest news stories drop?
