Arizona man faces charges in Rhode Island stabbing, police chase ending in crash

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — The man accused of stabbing someone outside a Rhode Island store and then crashing a car during a police pursuit is facing multiple charges. Jabriel, Goodwin, 32, of Arizona, appeared in Providence District Court[1] on Tuesday. He’s accused of stabbing 25-year-old Bryan Bailey, of Mansfield, in the arm and leg, outside the Ocean State Job Lot in Woonsocket, last Friday.

After the stabbing, police said Goodwin jumped in a car and took off. Officers said Goodwin hit one of their cruisers during the pursuit. The chase went on for several minutes before he ran a stop sign and crashed into another car at an intersection.

People who live in the area rushed to the scene to check out the commotion. I saw the car on its side and then the other one the windshield was all busted up and I heard they pulled the guy out through the windshield,” said Richard Methot, of Woonsocket. Police said two women in the other car were treated and released.

Goodwin was charged with felony assault, disorderly conduct, obstruction of a police officer, and more. A judge set bail at £5,000 with surety and a no-contact order with Bailey. Neighbors said they hope Goodwin pays for what he did.

“They usually get away with it,” said Muriel Papineau, of Woonsocket.

Goodwin is expected back in court in March.
