Arrests after reports of rival football fans fighting

Police in Shrewsbury have arrested two men on suspicion of affray following reports of rival football fans fighting.

The men, aged 18 and 36, were detained after officers were called to a fight between a group of men on Ellesmere Road at 20:50 GMT on Friday.

The men were arrested as the group left Ellesmere Road and both remain in custody, police said.

The arrests happened ahead of Shrewsbury Town FC’s fixture against Wrexham in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.
