MANITOWOC — Ascend Services Inc.[1], a local non-profit, had a catalytic converter cut out of its main production box truck and stolen in December. In a news release from Ascend Tuesday, Executive Director Deanna Genske asked for help from the public to cover the costs associated with the loss of the use of the vehicle.

“We have insurance that will cover the repair costs, but it doesn’t take into consideration all the other associated costs of being without that vehicle for an extended time,” Genske said. Ascend Services Inc. provides employment opportunities, education and community involvement for youths and adults with disabilities in Manitowoc County. Ascend’s Workforce Solutions Program depends on the organization picking up products from area businesses and then dropping off the finished job on time. Without the main production truck, which won’t be fixed until later this month, the production transportation services have been strained. “I think that the people who commit these crimes don’t realize the impact that they have on real people’s lives,” Genske said in the news release. “Our clients perform work every day for area businesses who depend on us, and we take pride in being on time with our deliveries.”

Genske said the theft is still being investigated by the Manitowoc Police Department[3]. There is video footage of the theft and they ask anyone with information contact the police at 920-686-6500. People who would like to donate to Ascend to help them cover the costs incurred by the theft can do so online at ascendservicesinc.org[4] or call 920-682-4663.
