Belgrave Middleway crash live Birmingham as city centre drivers face huge delays

A major Birmingham city centre road has been closed off in both directions after an incident. A dramatic image from the scene captures dozens of cars stuck in huge queues of traffic in the heart of the city. Belgrave Middleway has been shut both ways, with "long delays" for motorists heading in and out of Birmingham this evening (January 11).

The collision is said to have taken place between the A441 Pershore Road and Spring Road. Congestion was reported to the Spring Hill roundabout and towards Haden Circus. Surrounding roads are also affected by the traffic delays.

The severity of the incident is not yet clear. An alert from Inrix read: "A4540 Belgrave Middleway in both directions closed, long delays due to accident between A441 Pershore Road and Spring Road. Congestion to the Spring Hill Roundabout for traffic heading Eastbound and back to Haden Circus for traffic heading Westbound.

"Surrounding routes are also congested including the A441 Pershore Road and the A435 Haden Way." We have contacted West Midlands Police[2] for information on the incident.
