Bitterne Road West speeder caught doing 62mph in 30mph zone

Jonathan Harker, 34, was driving a Kia Niro when he was clocked at 62mph on the busy road on March 16 last year. The speed limit on that stretch of road is 30mph. Harker, of Fairfax Mews, Thornhill was caught by a manned speed camera.

He pleaded guilty to a single count of speeding at Southampton Magistrates’ Court. He received a GBP507 fine and six points on his licence. Harker must also pay court costs of GBP110 and a GBP203 surcharge.

This must be paid in full by January 19.

The court heard how Harker is a carer for his friend and uncle, who rely on his ability to drive.

It was also said that he would suffer financial hardship and homelessness if he was to lose his licence.
