Bolton police need your help to reduce car accidents
Officers have recently stepped up roadside checks monitoring the speed motorists travel at as part of Operation Portman, which was introduced to tackle the number of serious crashes on Bolton’s roads. This morning police were conducting a speed enforcement exercise in Tonge Moor, where they also seized a vehicle from a driver, who was suspected of having no insurance. Police officers from the Bolton North Neighbourhood Team were at Thicketford Road earlier today, Monday.
Officers say the exercise took place in response to resident’s concerns which they have reported following community feedback as well as data suggesting high rates of road traffic collisions leading to injury in Bolton. The team have asked residents to come forward with any roads on which speeding drivers are a concern. A spokesperson for GMP Bolton North said: “Bolton North Neighbourhood team have been out again this morning on Thicketford Road this morning conduct speed enforcement.
“This also saw a vehicle seized due to the driver having no insurance. “These enforcements are being carried out following community feedback but also because Bolton has some of the highest rates in the force for injury collisions with the main contributing factor for these being excess speed. “If you believe any particular areas should be concentrated on please let your local Neighbourhood team know.”
The team signposted residents to its website,[3] which residents can use to contact their local policing team. Operation Portman [4] was launched launched in response to concerns over the number of serious road incidents in the town. Hundreds of drivers have been reported for different alleged driving offences since the launch of the operation more than 12 months ago.
To help them catch speeding drivers, officers have acquired two laser devices to record speeding vehicles.
Officers said that the operation has resulted in a huge reduction in serious injuries in Bolton.
