Boston experienced far fewer shootings in 2023 than in 2022, according to Boston police data. In total, there were 110 shootings in the city last year, compared with 145 in 2022 — a drop of about 24%. The data indicates that the number of shooting victims in Boston decreased by almost as much, from 180 in 2022 to 144 in 2023 — a drop of about 20%.

That drop was consistent across fatal and non-fatal injuries, meaning that the city also experienced fewer gun deaths.
