Bungling masked robber crashes minutes after stealing delivery driver’s car

A bungling masked raider stole a delivery driver's car - and then crashed it minutes later. The robber was last seen fleeing in a waiting getaway car. The drama started on Drayton Street, in Newcastle-under-Lyme[1], when the delivery driver left the keys in the ignition.

It ended with the crash into the nearby sunken roundabout. Now Staffordshire Police[2] have just released details of the incident which StokeonTrentLive first reported on Friday, January 5. A police spokesman said: "We are appealing for witnesses after a car was stolen from outside a takeaway.

The white Seat Ibiza was parked outside a shop on Drayton Street when it was taken shortly after 7.40pm on 5 January. The keys were left in the ignition. "The vehicle was found abandoned following a collision with a traffic island on Barracks Road around five minutes later.

Witnesses reported seeing a male driver get out of the Seat and run towards the A34 London Road before getting into a 4x4-style vehicle which was then driven off. He is described as wearing a balaclava." Anyone with any information about the incident should call the police on 101, quoting incident number 651 of 5 January, or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
