Busy road shut for hours after driver ‘flees scene of crash’
A suspected drink driver was taken into police custody after reportedly fleeing the scene of a crash that shut a main road for hours overnight. Police said a black Mercedes and a black Honda Civic crashed at about 7.35pm on the B1230 on the section between Walkington and Beverley[1]. The road was not reported to have reopened until seven hours later.
A spokesperson for Humberside Police[2] told Hull Live: “Officers were called to reports of a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the B1230 at around 7.35pm yesterday (Tuesday 16 January). “It is reported a Black Honda Civic and Black Mercedes were in collision on Beverley Road[3] from Walkington Crossroads to Beverley, and the driver of the Black Honda Civic is believed to have subsequently fled the scene on foot towards Walkington. “One man was taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries.
Another man was located nearby and arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink, leaving the scene of a road traffic collision and driving without due care and attention. He remains in police custody at this time.”
