Car found crashed into ditch near busy roundabout
A Ford Focus left the road near Commonhead Roundabout (Image: Dave Cox) A car has driven into a ditch off a busy Swindon[1] roundabout - but mystery surrounds what happened. Drivers turning off Commonhead onto the A4259 Marlborough Road and heading towards Great Western Hospital were surprised to see what seemed to be the aftermath of a road traffic crash on the morning of Tuesday, January 2.
The blue Ford Focus on the grass verge had narrowly missed nearby trees and a lamppost, was covered in police tape, and perched on the edge of a short, steep gully. The rear farside tyre of the four-wheeler remained suspended in the air as the rest of the car tipped down into shrubs and undergrowth. The driver and any possible passengers were not at the scene.
The reason for the vehicle leaving the road and how long it had been there is not known. The Adver was first made aware of the incident on January 2, and has made several attempts to ask Wiltshire Police about the circumstances of the incident. But finally responding on Monday, January 8, a spokesperson said they had no reference to it on their logs.
However, the ribbons of blue and white tape stuck to the sides of the vehicle indicate that police attended the crash.
The Adver understands that the car has since been removed.
