Child fighting for life in hospital as police probe ‘incident’ on residential street
A child is fighting for their life in hospital after an incident in Darlington[1]. Police and paramedics attended Frosterley Drive[2], just off Haughton Road, at around 9am on Friday. Images seen by Teesside Live show several police vehicles and ambulances lined along the street as well as an air ambulance nearby.
The North East Ambulance Service[3] sent one ambulance crew, one clinical team leader and one rapid response paramedic to the scene before taking one person to hospital. Durham Constabulary has now confirmed that a child remains in a ‘critical condition’ at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle – with officers remaining at the scene while investigations continue. No details regarding the incident have been released by the force, nor the extent of the child’s injuries.
An ambulance service spokesperson said: “We were called to an incident on Frosterley Drive in Darlington this morning (12 January) shortly after 9am. We dispatched one ambulance crew, one clinical team leader, one rapid response paramedic and we were supported by our colleagues at the Great North Air Ambulance Service. One patient was taken to hospital by ambulance.”
A force spokesperson added: “Police were called to an address near Haughton Road, Darlington, at around 9am this morning (January 12). Paramedics also attended, and a child was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, where they remain in a critical condition. Officers are currently on scene at the address while initial inquiries are carried out.”
