The road was eventually reopened at 5.45pm.

A resident who lives near the scene told Manchester Evening News: ‘I picked my son up from school and it took us an hour and a half to get back home from Bredbury.

‘It had all happened when we got home but we’ve heard a young child was hit.

We’re just praying he makes a recovery.’
