Columbia police: 16-year-old boy shot during struggle with gun
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – Two people were arrested and charged after a 16-year-old was shot Wednesday.
Officials with the Columbia Police Department said they believe the boy was injured in a struggle with a gun involving an 18-year-old at the North Pointe Estates.
Tyrone Thompson Jr., 18, was charged with unlawful carrying of a pistol. Investigators determined that he shot the 16-year-old during a struggle for a gun. Police said the struggle was an attempted robbery.
The 16-year-old boy is in a local hospital in stable condition, police said.
Thompson was given a £1,000 surety bond and released from the Alvin S.
Glenn Detention Center.
The day after the shooting, police said William Wright III, 22, a relative of the boy, “acted in retaliation” and tried to kick in the front door of an occupied apartment. Wright is accused of firing multiple rounds at the apartment on North Pointe Estates.
No one was injured at the home, police said. Officials said that the home Wright shot at had “no involvement” with the shooting of his relative.
Wright was charged with attempted burglary, first-degree discharging a firearm into a dwelling, breach of peace of a high and aggravated nature, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and unlawful carrying of a pistol.
Wright was being housed at the Alvin S.
Glenn Detention Center. Bond was denied for his attempted burglary charge.
