County Durham road closures: 8 for motorists to avoid over the next fortnight County Durham’s motorists will have eight road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week. One of these closures is expected to cause moderate delays – with drivers facing a wait of between 10 and 30 minutes.
The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that four closures already in place are expected to carry on this week. Continued closures are: o A167, from 8pm January 3 to 6am January 10, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1M northbound and southbound, junction 59 Interchange, carriageway closures, lane closures for area scheme survey works.
o A1(M), from 7am December 2 2023 to 6.30am January 12 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M southbound, junction 58 to junction 57 hard shoulder lane closure for concrete protection for bridge strike. o A167, from 3pm November 24 2022 to 8pm January 29 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M, junction 59 interchange, 24/7 Lane closure for investigation works for structures. o A19, from 8pm September 18 2023 to 5.30pm February 25 2025, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A19 north and southbound, A182 Interchange, carriageway and lane closures for maintenance works.
And a further four closures will begin over the next two weeks: o A66, from 8am to 4.30pm on January 10, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A66 eastbound, Kilmond Wood to Scargill Reeth lane closure for maintenance works. o A1(M), from 8pm January 11 to 6am January 13, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M northbound and southbound, junction 60 lane closures for Vehicle safety fence repair.

o A177, from 8pm January 15 to 6am January 16, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M northbound and southbound, junction 61 interchange, lane closures for maintenance works. o A66, from 8pm January 18 to 6am January 19, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A66 westbound, Thorpe Farm to Rokeby, lane closure for maintenance works.
National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
