The westbound carriageway from J11 at Burnley to J10 for Padiham is currently closed off. Emergency services are on the scene. Traffic monitoring service Inrix reports a diversion is in place via the A682 towards Burnley.
The incident was first reported at around 6.20am today (Monday, January 15).
No details have been released about the number of vehicles involved or any injuries.
