Crash on I-476 in Poconos ties up traffic

A crash on I-476 is backing up traffic in Carbon County Tuesday afternoon. It happened on I-476 between the Pocono and Route 903 exits. The southbound lanes are closed.

Drivers are cautioned to expect delays. A dispatcher at the Highspire Pocono Barracks say Pennsylvania State Police troopers have handled five crashes since 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, including a major crash that involved a tractor-trailer crashing through a guardrail, and going down an embankment.

Both southbound lanes in the area around White Haven are blocked, and troopers say to expect that section of the roadway to remain shut down until approximately 5:30 p.m.

Tuesday.

No word on what led up to the Turnpike crash, or if anyone was hurt.
