Crash sends driver to hospital after vehicle rolls several times on U.S. 131

MONTCALM COUNTY, MI - A man was seriously injured in a crash when his truck went off the road and later rolled several times before coming to a stop, Montcalm County sheriff's deputies said.

The man's injuries were considered life-threatening, police said.

Sheriff's deputies were called just before 6 p.m. Monday, Jan.

8, to a rollover vehicle crash along U.S.

131, near M-82, in Reynolds Township.

Police said a 55-year-old Benson, Arizona man was driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck northbound on U.S.

131 when the vehicle went off the right side of the road. The truck exited the road between the off-ramp and the travel lanes of the highway.

After the pickup left the road, it struck an embankment and overturned several times before coming to a rest on its passenger side.

The man was extricated from the vehicle and taken to an area hospital for treatment.

A witness told police they saw the truck driving erratically right before the crash.

The driver did not appear to be wearing his seatbelt and alcohol is believed to be a factor, police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
