Cyclist hospitalised after ‘hit and run’ on New Year’s Day

Officers say the driver failed to stop after the crash, which occured at around 1am on Monday, January 1. A man in his 30s was knocked off his bike by a dark vehicle at the Transfer Bridges Roundabout, Wiltshire Police said. This happened at the junction with Cirencester Way, with the cyclist heading in the direction of County Way at the time of the incident.

The victim sustained an injury to his head and leg as a result and required hospital treatment. Officers said that the driver of the dark vehicle failed to stop at the scene and left in an unknown direction. Anyone who witnessed the crash, or may have dashcam footage, is now urged to contact the police.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident including anyone who may have dash cam footage – it is likely there were more vehicles in the area than normal due to it being the early hours of New Years Day.
