Deadly double fatal accident on I-490 remains under investigation

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The Cleveland Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit continues to investigate a deadly double fatal on I-490 Monday morning.

The two car crash happened around 5:50 a.m. on I-490 Westbound, just west of E.

55th Street.

When officers arrived, a 45-year-old Elyria man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified him as James Wells IV.

Two women in the second car were transported to MetroHealth Medical Center.

The 37-year-old passenger, Shalon Barnett, of Cleveland, died from her injuries.

The 34-year-old driver remains hospitalized.

Her name and condition have not been released.

All lanes on I-490 were re-opened just before noon Monday.
