Deadly New Year’s Day crash following NY concert being investigated as possible terrorism: Source

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHAM) — A deadly crash after a concert in upstate New York on New Year’s Day is being investigated as possible terrorism, sources confirmed to ABC News[1]. Two people were killed and five others, including three pedestrians, were injured early Monday in a crash outside the Kodak Center. Police said a Ford Expedition traveling east on West Ridge Road struck a Mitsubishi Outlander that was pulling out of a parking lot around 12:50 a.m., killing two adult passengers in the Mitsubishi.

The driver of the Ford was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Mitsubishi was taken to Rochester General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The force of the crash caused the two vehicles to go through a group of pedestrians, injuring three, one of whom was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The two others had non-life-threatening injuries. Police said one of the three vehicles involved exploded, and a police officer and numerous pedestrians were almost struck by one of the vehicles. Law enforcement officials confirmed to ABC News that the driver of the Ford Expedition is from Syracuse and that he rented the vehicle from the Syracuse Airport.

Law enforcement also confirmed that the Mitsubishi that was involved in the crash was an Uber.

Police also reportedly located at least a dozen gasoline canisters in and around the Ford Expedition, causing the Rochester Police Department Bomb Squad and the Joint Arson Task Force to respond to the scene.

The police are also working with federal partners, including the FBI, to learn exactly what led to the crash.
