Derbyshire pub with own chippy and stunning views goes on sale for under ?400,000
A Derbyshire pub with its own fish and chip[1] shop will go up for auction later this month. The Thorn Tree Inn, between Ripley[2] and Langley Mill[3], has been shut for around 12 months. It was originally listed with a guide price of GBP425,000 but has since dropped to GBP395,000, with a public auction due at the end of January.
Located off the busy Nottingham Road, the former pub could serve up to 100 people in the restaurant[4] and had an outdoor decking area and beer garden offering spectacular views over the surrounding countryside. Nottinghamshire Live reports[5] that it also boasted a separate fish and chip takeaway business, which operated from the side of the property. It had been part of the George’s Tradition group but at the time of closure, it had rebranded as a Caudal & Dorsal fish and chip takeaway.

The message on January 15 2023 was the last communication from the former owners and in March 2023 the property went up for sale. The Thorn Tree used to have a good reputation for its food and views but before it closed down some customers complained that it was cold and said they had to wear their coats because the heating had broken down. Some complained that it had gone downhill.

Property agents said the site had the potential to be turned into a drive-thru or alternative uses subject to planning permission and would be of interest to investors, developers and owner occupiers.
The former pub is being auctioned by Manchester-based Pugh Auctions. Bidding opens on January 30 and will close on January 31. We send out the biggest stories in an email every day.
