Dorset Police appeal for witnesses after alleged taxi driver assault on Christmas Day
Dorset Police are calling for witnesses following an alleged assault on a taxi driver in Dorchester town centre.
The incident, which occurred on Monday 25 December 2023, has led to a police investigation and an appeal to the public for any information.
The victim, a male taxi driver in his 40s, reportedly picked up a passenger from an address on Cambridge Road. At around 6.30pm, while inside the taxi, the driver was assaulted. The suspect then fled the scene towards Dorchester town centre.
The taxi driver suffered minor facial injuries during the incident and was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment.
In response to this incident, police have conducted inquiries which led to the arrest of a 21-year-old man from Weymouth.
The individual has been connected with the assault and was taken into custody.
He has since been released on police bail as the investigation continues.
Police Constable Mia-Isabella Bowditch, Weymouth Police, said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the area at this time and has information about what happened to please come forward.
“Furthermore, I would ask any residents of the area to please review the recordings on their doorbell cameras or home CCTV systems to see if they have captured anything of relevance that can help us with our enquiries.”
