Dr Michael Mosley advocates pill at 7p a day for blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol
Diet and wellbeing guru Doctor Michael Mosley has urged people to take a pill supplement for their diets – which he claims can have a huge impact on their health. The expert who is famed for his version of the 5:2 and Fast 800 eating plans spoke out on his Instagram feed today. Dr Mosley said taking a specific kind of supplement can tackle issues including diabetes, obesity, blood pressure, cholesterol and inflammation.
He said: “Why not try taking an Omega 3 supplement? “Omega 3 is a great all-round supplement that will help improve metabolic health. Taking Omega 3 and eating oily fish on a regular basis may help to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, central obesity, blood pressure, insulin resistance, cholesterol and inflammation.
“There is also research to suggest that Omega 3 helps improve mood and increases brain function. There is nothing fishy about that!” Omega 3 is found in fish and other seafood, especially cold-water fatty fish, such as salmon, mackerel, tuna, herring, and sardines, nuts and seeds (such as flaxseed, chia seeds, and walnuts) and plant oils. They are available to buy online for GBP17.99 for 300 pills[1] making them about 7p per day.
Speaking previously Dr Mosley has said: “The oily fish and the anti-inflammatory effects of the Omega 30, definitely, I think I think that’s a lot of the benefit, because we know these Omega three, the polyunsaturated fatty acids, poof for short. We know they’re anti-inflammatory again. They’re another educator of the immune system.
They’re converted into the body. Speaking about other good foods, Dr Mosley said he also recommended oily fish. He said: “Oily fish loads of research on the benefits of Omega 3 for the brain, for the heart and I try to eat it three or four times a week.
The NHS[2] only says twice a week but I can find no good basis for that. If you’re going to have oily fish ideally you want it to be sustainable for example mackerel – there are forms of sustainable oily fish you can find. “At the other end you have things like swordfish which I wouldn’t touch because it’s riddled with mercury and things like that.
Very very occasionally about once every five years I have a bit of swordfish but I feel very guilty about it.”
