A driver crashed a stolen car into a set of traffic lights during a police chase. Images from the scene show the lights, at Switch Island, have been damaged in the incident which also left two people in hospital. Merseyside police[1] were called to reports a Ford Kuga was stolen outside a house in Kirkby[2] at around 1.30am on Tuesday, January 2. The car was then spotted in the Long Lane, Aintree area. Officers carried out a pursuit of the car which then crashed into traffic light on the A59 on the approach to Switch Island at Maghull.[3][4][5]

Two people inside the car, a man and a woman, were taken to hospital. Police have confirmed their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
