Driver who suffered medical episode while driving in hospital after crash

A driver has been taken to hospital after suffering a medical episode behind the wheel of a car and crashing into a wall in Radstock. Emergency services were called to Frome Road shortly after 5.30pm today (Wednesday, January 17) following reports of a single vehicle collision. A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police told SomersetLive the driver is believed to have experienced a medical episode before the vehicle crashed into a wall.[1] A member of the public provided emergency first aid to the patient until the South West Ambulance Service arrived.

The driver was then taken to hospital and their next of kin have been informed. Frome Road remains closed in both directions while fire crews and engineers ensure that gas pipes at the scene are safe, the spokesperson continued. An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: "Emergency services were called to Frome Road, Radstock, at about 5.35pm on Wednesday 17 January, following a single vehicle collision.

The driver of the vehicle is believed to have suffered a medical episode before colliding with a wall. "Officers have praised a member of the public who was first on the scene and carried out first aid until the ambulance service arrived. The driver went to hospital by ambulance and their next of kin have been informed.

"The road is closed between Mells Lane and Knobsbury Lane pending recovery of the vehicle and while fire crews and engineers ensured gas pipes at the scene were safe."
