Eighteen Devon court cases including death by dangerous driving

Devon’s shoplifting epidemic and a case of alleged death by dangerous driving were among the types of cases featuring at court in the past week. Some of the defendants in the list were dealt with during the period between Christmas[1] and New Year. All criminal cases start at the magistrates.

The most serious are sent to crown court. Most defendants are dealt with by fines or community orders. Magistrates have the power to send people to prison for up to 12 months.

Here are the most recent defendants to appear at magistrates courts in Exeter, Newton Abbot[2] and Barnstaple[3]. Devon’s lost coastal village that time forgot loved by rich and famous[4] Exeter brunch cafe is tucked away like a hidden treasure[5]
