Emmerdale viewers baffled by puzzling teen crash gaffe as Bob and Cathy’s heartbreak continues

Emmerdale fans were left utterly confused during tonight’s instalment of the ITV soap as a major blunder appeared to be exposed about the devastating car crash that killed Heath Hope (played by Sebastian Dowling).[1][2] Grieving dad Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw) and the teenagers involved in the accident all decided to head over to the scene to pay their respects to late 16 year old Heath with flowers. Cathy Hope (Gabrielle Dowling), April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) and Angelica King (Rebecca Bakes) were all present, as they sobbed and said their goodbyes to the beloved Heath.

But it turned out that they’d all managed to walk just a few minutes away from the village to the main road where the car smashed and rolled over. Bob also spoke of walking to the site, yet Doctor Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) drove there.

During the New Year’s Day episode, the teenagers were in the car for much of the action,[3] and had been racing down the country roads in a bid to get to a party in Hotten in time for midnight. As a result, fans were puzzled by what seemed to be a discrepancy in the distances, and were convinced there seemed to be an issue with the plot.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, fans shared their thoughts on the twist. One person queried: “How far away from the village were they that they can just easily walk there? #Emmerdale.”

“#emmerdale 10 miles in the car !

2 mins to walk there ! Farcical,” another confused fan wrote.

A third person wondered: “How can they walk to the scene of the crash, when them obnoxious kids were driving for ages #emmerdale,” while a fourth commented: “They were driving in the car for ages and yet the kids have all just walked there? #emmerdale.” “No wonder they complained that Cathy was driving too slowly, looks like she might only have gone a few metres out the village #Emmerdale,” a fifth added. While fans continued to debate the believability of what happened, there’s plenty more heartbreak to come for Bob and his troubled teenage daughter Cathy, who also suffers from premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

After finding the youngster, who is grieving the loss of her twin brother, yelling at Angelica in the Hyde, Bob unleashed his rage.

“You’re doing it again and you can’t even see it. You’re trying to force her into lying for you,” he accused. “That’s not what happened,” a sobbing Cathy insisted, as Bob continued to give the child both barrels.

“What isn’t fair is that your brother is dead and you’re responsible for it. This time Cathy, there’s no one else to blame,” he cried angrily. “From here it looks like you’re dumping on every single memory that I have with Heath because every one of them is with you.” It seems Bob’s relationship with his daughter is now in tatters, and elsewhere in the Dales, Lydia Dingle (Karen Blick) returned from her mum’s to have a teary reunion with her husband Sam Dingle (James Hooton).

Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) and Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) also came clean about their romance.

Emmerdale continues weekdays at 7.30pm on ITV
