Enfield man jailed after child sex offences conviction
Amanuel Ehdego, 37, of Derby Road in Enfield, was sentenced to 14 years in prison with an extended six-year license for child sexual offences on December 22 at Chelmsford Crown Court. These offences include engaging in sexual communication with a child, causing a child – between 13 and 15 – to view sexual activity, three counts of making indecent images of a child and attempting to facilitate the sexual exploitation of a child under 13. Ehdego was also convicted of paying for the sexual services of a girl under the age of 13 and attempting to arrange the commission of a child sexual assault.
PC Gurpreet Singh, investigation lead, said: “Amanuel Ehdego is a prolific sexual predator who preys on vulnerable children. “At each stage of this investigation,[1] further aspects of his depravity were unearthed, which made it even more crucial he was stopped and held to his account for his appalling acts, of which the risk he posed, showed no signs of diminishing,” he added. Ehdego first came to police attention in August 2022 when he engaged with an undercover officer in a chat room. Police said Ehdego thought he was chatting with was a 12-year-old girl and quickly manoeuvred the conversation to sex and encouraged her to send pictures and video of herself. He also tried to arrange a meet-up to have sex, police added.
Ehdego was arrested on September 14 in 2022 and his digital devices were seized, on which police discovered 49 indecent images and videos of children. While released under investigation, he attempted to meet with an underage girl after speaking online. He travelled to Scotland thinking he would be meeting an 11-year-old girl for sex, but this was an adult who called police and Ehedgo was arrested, charged and remanded in custody.
Police discovered from his devices that he was also paying money to arrange, direct and view live streams of children being sexually abused in the Philippines.
Authorities in that country were notified by police to safeguard 12 children aged seven to 18.
Ehdego was also given a sexaul harm prevention order by police.
