On Tuesday evening officers were called to Queen Street at 6.30pm after reports of a boy who had been seriously assaulted.

After arriving at the scene, the 16-year-old boy was taken to hospital with stab wounds. Police officers cordoned off the junction of Queen Street and St Botolph’s Street[1] whilst an investigation took place. In the early hours of Wednesday morning a 20-year-old man was arrested on the suspicion of attempted murder[2].

Essex Police told the Gazette the boy’s condition had now improved. A spokesman said: “The victim in this case remains in hospital and his injuries are no longer deemed to be life-threatening.” Speaking yesterday ward councillor Steph Nissen said: “I am stunned by the level of violence.

“I hope this is a one-off incident.

Let’s come together as a community.”
