Eye-witnesses describe moment BMW smashes into front garden
Neighbours have given eye-witness accounts after a BMW hit a wall and came to rest on two wheels[1] in the front garden of a property in Fishponds[2]. The crash is understood to have happened soon after 3pm this afternoon, Thursday, January 11. Photographs and footage from the scene show a grey BMW SUV at a 45-degree angle to the pavement having hit a low wall.
There is debris from the crash on the road and two other vehicles appear to have been damaged in the incident which witnesses describe as having happened “in the blink of an eye”. Both front airbags were deployed on impact with the wall and BristolLive understands that one person was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be rescued by emergency services. It is unclear if the driver or any passengers were injured in the collision but it is standard practice for people to be taken to hospital as a precaution when airbags have been triggered.
Our reporter at the scene spoke to residents of Ridgeway Road who described what they witnessed. Neighbours said that the drama appears to have been triggered initially by a collision between a Volkswagen and the BMW. Then they describe a burst of acceleration before seeing the BMW spin on the road, then clip the kerb before bouncing into the wall where the vehicle has been stuck for around two hours.
As well as the wall being knocked down, a car parked at the property in question appears to have been damaged in the crash and there is a substantial amount of debris on the pavement.
As of 5pm this evening, the BMW remained awaiting recovery.
