Falling Light Pole Narrowly Misses Illinois Police Officer

A police officer had a narrow miss with a falling light pole while responding to a traffic crash near Elmhurst, Illinois, on Friday, January 12. Footage released by Elmhurst Police Department shows an officer driving along the IL-83. A car in the opposite lane can be seen stopped next to a light pole, which begins to fall just as the officer drives under it.

Elmhurst Police Department said[1] the officer had been responding to a traffic crash in the area when a vehicle not involved in the crash lost control on the snowy roads and struck the light pole. No-one was injured in the incident, according to police.[2] "Winter driving is serious business.

Slow down, increase stopping distances, and postpone unnecessary travel during snow storms," the department wrote.[3]

The City of Elmhurst said[4] on Friday that a winter storm warning was in effect for the city, warning citizens of up to 12 inches of snow expected snowfall and adverse travel conditions.
