The family, who are from the Aston area in the West Midlands, said in a statement: “It is with a heavy heart and great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Adnan Malek. “Ten days after turning 19, he was taken away from this world, the very world which lit up with his charismatic smile and melted with the kindness of his heart.

A loving brother, son, uncle and friend to many, we will hold him in memory forever. “Those that were fortunate enough to know him knew how much he would go out of his way for others. Keeping that in mind, we as his family, have decided to fundraise for charity in his name through Ummah Welfare Trust.”

A spokesperson for Rochdale Coroners’ Court has confirmed that an inquest into Adnan’s death is due to open this week. GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is continuing to appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward as part of their enquiries. The driver was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been released under investigation.
