Fiancee in tears over police video
he hanged himself in a police cell. The court was hearing a fatal accident inquiry into the death last July in Dunfermline Police HQ of Mr Barry Crookston, 19, of Whitelaw
Crecent, Dunfermline. The inquiry was told two police probationer constables, one with only three months’ service, had failed to remove a belt and a sweatshirt cord
when Mr Crookston was searched before being locked up on a charge of alleged robbery. He was found hanging from the inspection hatch of his cell door.
A police video of the search in the charge room was being shown when Mr Crookston’s fiancee, Miss Kerry Brigham, now living in Bristol, was led
from the court on the instructions of Sheriff Daniel Convery. Earlier Miss Brigham told the inquiry: ”Barry was a lovable person when he was sober but was violent when he took drink and drugs.
On the day he died he had been drinking again and I told him we were finished. He attacked me and bit me.”
Sheriff Convery was shown police pictures of 10 bite marks on Miss
Brigham’s back and two on her front.
The inquiry continues.
